MNF Presidential Candidate Interviews

Senators Obama and McCain just made their appearances on Monday Night Football, and both of them gave answers that impressed me as a sports fan.

When asked what he would want to change in sports, Obama talked about instituting a playoff for college football, something that made my republican roommate's ears perk up as he jokingly exclaimed, "He's got my vote!"  Seriously, though, as a sports fan, hearing Obama empathize with the struggles of college football fans who must rely on ambiguous pollsters to put their teams in contention makes him very relatable.  It doesn't really help do much for the economy, wars abroad or tax cuts, but the BCS is as hotly contested as any of those issues.

As for McCain, he answered the question of what he would change in sports by taking the "getting rid of performance enhancing drugs" route.  While it might not be the attention-getting answer like Obama's, it's an issue in which the president might actually be able to help by setting regulations, where as in college football the president can't really enforce a playoff (dare to dream).  The Arizona senator also threw in a "he. could. go. all. the way ... to the White House!" as well as reinforcing the fact that even though some pundits have written him off, "that's why they play the games."

So whoever you're voting for in this election, if you're a sports fan, you could definitely appreciate each interview on Monday Night Football.  Now if only we could find a way to impeach Chris Berman... (again, dare to dream)
